The Spire Clinic, Cheltenham Spa is proud to Support Uganda Link

The Spire Clinic, Cheltenham Spa is delighted to announce it will be giving a donation to ‘The Uganda Link’, a Dean Close Charity, as a thank you for the fantasitc artwork the A level art students have given to our clinic.

Set up in 2005, The Uganda Link is a Dean Close charity which supports a secondary school in Western Uganda, Nyakatukura Memorial Secondary School. Nyakatukura School was set up by the Church of Uganda to provide secondary education to poor and orphaned children.

Thanks to the Dean Close community, Nyakatukura has evolved from its humble beginnings to become a blossoming secondary school with over 350 students. The school now has five fully equipped classrooms, a library, an examination hall and solar electricity, as well as a water harvester and a tap on the school site. Most recently a girls’ dormitory, aptly named ‘Fawley and Shelburne’, has been constructed, with a boys’ dormitory currently under construction too. Over the years a strong relationship has formed between two schools which is celebrated by a plaque in Nyakatukura: ‘Dean Close and Nyakatukura Memorial School – Friends Forever’.

Dean Close makes an annual trip to Uganda to foster this unique relationship. Staff and pupils alike engage in teaching lessons and sharing resources from books to bags, from sports kit to keyboards. There is often a closely contested inter-school sports tournament and a chance to interact and swap stories. The experience is hugely beneficial and the sheer vibrancy of the Ugandan culture and the warmth and hospitality of the people are extraordinary.

Some of the exceptionally talented A level art students have donated their final artwork pieces to the Spire Clinic to brighten up the walls and bring our new clinic to life. As a thank you, Spire Healthcare will be donating money to Uganda Link to help fund the next annual trip to Uganda and enable the Dean Close pupils to continue to work hard for such a fantastic cause.
